Reston Hoops
High School
Basketball
A flexible winter basketball experience for high school athletes who want to compete, play with friends, and stay connected to the game without a traditional practice-heavy schedule.
Built for High School
Basketball that fits your schedule
Reston Hoops High School Basketball is structured differently from the younger House divisions. There are no skills evaluations and no traditional weekly team-practice schedule.
Players can build a team with friends, request teammates, register as a smaller group, or join individually and be placed with other players.
Weekend Games
Games are primarily played on Saturday late afternoons/evenings. New this season, games may also be held on Sunday afternoons/evenings at South Lakes High School.
Sunday Open Gym
Instead of formal practices, Sunday-night open gym time is available at South Lakes during the winter season for drills, team work, or pickup basketball. Some teams may still offer a weekday practice as space and team availability allow.
Play With Friends
Players are encouraged to form teams with friends. A complete pre-formed team consists of 7–8 registered players.
No Skills Evaluations
High school athletes do not attend the skills evaluations used for many younger House divisions. Players are placed directly onto teams.
Important Eligibility Note
Check before you register
Athletes who are currently playing on their high school basketball team are not eligible to participate in the Reston Hoops High School league during that season.
Team Formation
Four ways to get on the court
The high school division gives players flexibility in how they join and who they play with.
Build a Team
Players may organize a complete team with friends. A full pre-formed team requires 7–8 registered players.
Request Friends
Players may submit friend requests during the registration process.
Join as a Group
Smaller groups of friends can register even when they do not have enough players to form a complete team.
Register Solo
Individual players can register and be matched with other athletes to create teams.

The Experience
More freedom. Still organized.
Open Gym Instead of Formal Practice
The program does not use a traditional formal-practice model for high school teams. Sunday-night open gym at South Lakes provides time for teams to run drills, work together, or play pickup basketball.
Coaching & Supervision
Adult supervision and guidance are part of the high school program. Current program information states that JV teams are assigned coaches, while Varsity teams typically operate with greater player independence.
