Summer in Reston

More reps. More games. More summer.

Summer Basketball is designed for athletes who are new to basketball as well as players who want additional opportunities to strengthen their fundamentals in a friendly competitive environment.

The league emphasizes playing time, teammate and team requests, school connections, and community involvement while giving families a structured way to keep athletes on the court throughout the summer.

01

Skill Development

Players can learn the game or continue strengthening fundamental basketball skills through summer competition.

02

Playing Time

The summer program places a strong emphasis on giving athletes opportunities to participate and compete.

03

Play With Friends

Registration supports teammate, coach, and pre-formed team requests when applicable.

04

Stay Local

Games take place in Reston, Herndon, and surrounding communities.

Joining the League

Register as a player or bring a team

Summer Basketball accommodates individual players as well as athletes joining a pre-formed team.

Individual Players

We’ll help find your team

Athletes can register individually without already belonging to a team.

  • Register for the division based on the grade the player will enter in the fall.
  • Individual registrants who need team placement attend one league evaluation.
  • Evaluation information is communicated before teams are formed.
  • Players are assigned to teams after the evaluation and team-formation process.
Pre-Formed Teams

Bring your group together

Players may also participate as part of a pre-formed summer team.

  • Every player registers individually through the league registration process.
  • Players identify the applicable coach or team information when registering.
  • Players listed on an approved pre-formed team generally do not attend individual evaluations.
  • Final team and roster requirements are provided during the current registration cycle.

Late May / Early June

Evaluations

Individual registrants who need team placement attend an evaluation before teams are finalized.

Early June

Rosters and team assignments are completed in preparation for league play.

Mid June–Early August

Play Ball

Weeknight league play leads into playoffs and end-of-season activity.

Find the Right Division

Use the grade you’re entering

Summer Basketball divisions are based on the grade an athlete will enter for the upcoming school year—not the grade the player just completed.

Current summer programming spans younger beginner players through high school JV and Varsity-age athletes. Exact division structure can be adjusted from season to season, so families should confirm their current division during registration.

Summer Pathway

The program provides age-appropriate divisions across elementary, middle, and high school.

Future Stars Younger beginner athletes
3rd / 4th Rising grade division
5th / 6th Rising grade divisions
7th / 8th Middle school divisions
JV High school pathway
Varsity High school pathway

Division formats and grade groupings can vary. Use the current registration process to confirm the appropriate division for your athlete.

What players need

Summer Basketball keeps the equipment list simple so athletes can focus on playing.
